Going home

After eight years of living in the USA, I have just returned to Britain where I grew up.
It was an incredible journey back, I didn t know what to expect . What would people think of me bailing out of Britain and going to live my dreams in the USA ?
I didn t remember how to ride on The Tube or how to ride on the bus . My life has been amazingly fast paced since I left ,I ve had to learn so many things to become a singer that I d just forgotten my roots. I was very anxious before I got on the plane in Los Angeles , but when I arrived in the airport at Heathrow and saw the Brits looking hip and eccentric I knew I was fine. I still fitted in .
It was surreal for the first three days , I felt like I was on a movie set , everything was so quaint and there were real 'English folk'. I had forgotten what an immensely beautiful country it is . Especially after living in the deserts of California. My home town is near Hampton Court , or near about and it was absolutely extraordinary to re- visit it s palatial beauty, suddenly to be in Henry VIII’s deer park . I was mind-blown !
British people are great , I had so much support .
I really enjoyed Hyde Park , the Serpentine , having my Mum cook for me , seeing my best-friend Emma Pope for the first time in ten years, and her three beautiful babies . Tea six times a day , my Dad’s advice , going to see Abbey Road Studios , home of The Beatles and staying in Blooms bury .
All in all it was an extraordinary trip , very emotional .
I want to say thanks to Francesca for going to Rome with me at the last minute , my Mum and Dad and all my friends there. Dig it all . London is still really cool , really hip and a great place to be .
Thanks to Mark Richardson at Independente for the tips . I have such romantic memories of Britain , growing up, it was great to see it all again and remember more .
See you again soon everyone !
Love Zoë x

Having now lived in Austalia for the last 8 years and have only occasionally returned to the UK, I can understand your perceptions and insights of "going home".

However, home for me is now Australia with my wife and 5 kids.

Home is where the heart is.

Great to see that you are doing well and living the dream.

Give my love to Em next time you see her.
